Dragonheart Vermont is a 150-member strong breast cancer survivor and supporter dragon boat organization in Burlington, Vermont. We embrace the international sport of dragon boat racing as a way to enrich our lives with fitness, friendship, and fun. Our mission is to empower Breast Cancer Survivors to live life to the fullest after their diagnosis through vigorous exercise, camaraderie, and community service.
Each summer, we host the Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival, which features 2,000 members of our community joining together for friendly competition and fundraising in support of our vital mission. Since its inception in 2006, the festival has raised and donated more than $550,000 to community cancer organizations including Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, Vermont Respite House, The Cancer Patient Support Program, and the Fletcher Allen Radiation Oncology Department.
In 2011, Dragonheart identified a critical need for ongoing help and support for cancer survivors in our community after their clinical treatment ends. To meet this need, we’ve established Survivorship NOW, our Network On Wellness, to provide wide-ranging wellness opportunities that empower survivors to move past cancer and live a full and meaningful life.
